Frequently Asked Questions About Eyelash Extensions
What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are semi-permanent comprised of individual synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. Eyelash Extensions vary lengths, thicknesses, curvatures, and colors designed to attach to your own natural lashes to create longer, thicker, fuller, and curlier eyelashes. Application is customized to meet your specific needs and style.
Are Eyelash Extensions Safe?
Eyelash Extensions will not harm or cause damage to your natural lashes because they are individually applied to your natural lashes using a specifically formulated bonding material. The bonding material used is quality adhesive that contains ultra-low quantities of formaldehyde which, at ultra low levels, is considered negligible and non-harmful. Most eyelash extension adhesives contain cyanoacrylate which makes the solution fast bonding, and carbon black which is for the dark mascara-like color.
Eyelash Extension are not FDA approved because they do not come in contact with your skin. They are applied to your natural lashes about 1mm away from your skin to be able to follow the growth and bloom of your own lashes. Applying Eyelash Extensions requires skill and precision. Extensions should only be applied by a certified and trained eyelash professional.
What are the benefits of wearing Eyelash Extensions?
Most women choose Eyelash Extensions to lengthen their natural lashes while others want their lashes to look fuller. A number of women with naturally light colored lashes choose Eyelash Extensions to darken their existing lashes. Still others love the different, fun looks they can achieve with layering.
Eyelash Extensions can create a younger appearance on many clients. Eyelash Extensions create the appearance of a brighter, more open and rested eye, thereby creating a more youthful and rejuvenated look.
Above all, the main advantage of Eyelash Extensions is how much time you can save during your beauty regimen. Eyelash Extensions allow you to spend less time with makeup; mascara is certainly no longer necessary. Because our lashes are bigger at the base, they create the same effect as eyeliner so that step can be avoided as well. Overall, Eyelash Extensions will give you the appearance of having put significant effort into your eye makeup when, in reality, you spent no time at all. No application of eye makeup and no need for removal at the end of the day.
How long do Eyelash Extensions Last?
Your natural eyelashes shed and go through a natural growth cycle. This cycle is predetermined by our genes, as well as our health and other factors. The average "lash life" is about 60 to 100 days and undergoes three growth phases. Your individual eyelash enters each phase at various times. When your natural lash matures and falls out, new lashes have already started growing.Eyelash Extensions are applied to the lashes that are in the middle growth phase because they can support the length and weight of extensions, and will prolong the amount of time they will last without interrupting the health of new lashes. When properly applied and cared for, eyelash extensions will last between 3 to 5 weeks. As your own lashes shed, expect to lose some extensions as well. Please refer to the Aftercare Instructions on how to properly care for your lashes.
How long does the procedure take?
Depending on the expertise and experience of the Lash Stylist and the number of lashes being applied, it generally takes between 150 to 200 minutes to apply a full set of Eyelash Extensions. Touch-ups can be done in as little as 45 to 60 minutes. That is a touch-up with very little missing and with really cleaning your lashes making sure no glue, dirt, or debris is on any lashes.
Can you describe the application process?
You will be comfortably laying down with your eyes closed while Eyelash Extensions are applied one at a time to your own natural eyelashes. There is no discomfort or pain involved in the procedure. In fact, most clients find it is so relaxing and comfortable that they fall asleep.
I have no lashes at all, can I wear Eyelash Extensions?
Because Eyelash Extensions are applied to existing natural lashes you must have some natural lashes to receive the procedure. Eyelash Extensions should not, and in many cases cannot, be applied to clients who have alopecia, are undergoing chemotherapy or those who suffer from Trichotillomania, unless and until the individual has received effective treatment and normal lash growth has resumed.
Can I apply Eyelash Extensions to my own eyelashes?
No. Only a trained professional will be able to safely apply Eyelash Extensions. Unprofessional application or self-application may cause eye injury, lash damage or unnatural looking lashes. Eyelash Extensions are applied one lash at a time to your individual natural eyelashes to achieve long, thick and natural looking eyelashes. The procedure involves bonding the synthetic extension to your own natural eyelashes and should be performed only by professionally trained Lash Stylists only.
